The picture shows Scots fisher girls chatting to a fisherman in a harbour packed with fishing boats from the herring fleet.
At the beginning of the 20th century, it has been said, that the river was so crammed with boats that you could walk across the river from one bank to the other, without getting your feet wet, by using the boats!
