Coronation Procession 1953

By Val Norman

These lovely photographs were kindly supplied by Colin Cockle. They show floats in the parade to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953.  Have you any memories or photographs to share of that time or of subsequent jubilees?  If so then please post them on this site.

Jo O'Donoghue (Curator) at Time and Tide Museum would also like to hear from you as she is putting together a new exhibition about the Coronation and Jubilees. If you have something to share then please call the museum on 01493 743930 or email yarmouth.museums@norfolk.gov.uk

I was 9 when the coronation took place; we went to a party on Northgate Street in a hall next to a pub and bicycle shop.  We where presented with New Testaments from the corporation which I still have today, in fact me finding them in my attic has resulted in me contacting my younger brother who I had not seen or spoken to for 15 years, what a good fine.  Does anyone else remember that party?

Hi to all the old Priory girls out there, if you were at the 2011 reunion at the Priory Hall you will remember about the 1953 coronation banner that was found and which was handed over to the Time and Tide Museum. Well I now have been informed that it will be well displayed in the coming Jubilee Event at the Time and Tide.  There are names been stitched on to the panels so get on down to the Time and Tide and see if we can find those missing girls.  Many thanks to Val Norman for the information.
