Skipper Billy Beales And My First Season Working On Her
By Neil Cox
I worked on the Elizabeth Simpson when I left school in 1970. The owner George Elliot asked me to work on her due to the a illness to the crew member who I knew prevously worked on the Queen of the Broads. She used to take passengers to Berney Arms on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday . Wednesday was an all day trip to St Olaves, round trip through the New Cut to Berney Arms. I always remember a private outing we did for disadvantage children on a Saturday. The children were so excited and well behaved that it was a pleasure taking them on a trip on the river. The season lasted from Whitsun through to September, if the weather was good, through to October. The season I worked, the weather was very mixed with hot and cold spells. So here are some photographs of her.
