I only remember being a barrow boy once as I didn't have a barrow. I " borrowed " my stepbrothers pram and took luggage from Beach Station to F block on North Denes holiday camp. I think I got 5 shillings.
Two other money making opportunities were carrying bags for the bookies at the race course. Once I remember the guy I approached must have had a good day because he told me he didn't want any help but gave me half a crown anyway.
The other way to earn some cash was to collect herring from the " Freshers" quay as they dropped out of the baskets during unloading, these I think sold for 1 shilling each.
