Not sure where to put this memory - I visited Great Yarmouth every summer when I was 5,6,7,8,9. It was our annual holiday. My parents came to live with, and care for dad's elderly aunt and, as he was a Methodist minister, my father also took a turn preaching in the local circuit and taking the odd funeral.
My memories are of a carefree time; going to the circus, being sent out shopping for fish and chips alone for the very first time in my life, playing on a beach warmer than my home beach at Cleethorpes. Yet I wonder how many people today would consider caring for a relative and exchanging pulpits a holiday? Are there any other recollections of church life out there? Does anyone recall services on the beach for holidaymakers? How has the life of the clergy and their families changed?
