Peter Parker and his wife Wendy were keen members of the Great Yarmouth Roller Skating Club, which performed the Skating Cavalcades at the Wellington Pier in Great Yarmouth. They performed for the holidaymakers two nights a week all through the summer season. Wendy can be seen performing a duet with a partner below.

Hello Everyone! This is Marie Townley-Scott. I was in the Great Yarmouth Skating Show. I was in the chorus and also danced with Peter Moore. I would love to hear from anyone to share photos and memories.

To Marie Townley -Scott.
I have only just found all the skating photos that have been added to the site by Laura Matthews. I was in Roller Revels the first year it started with Howarth Hargreaves and Sheila Wilkson.
I submitted a photo to the December issue of Lets talk magazine before I knew of this website. Pictures bring back great memories, I recognise some of the faces and look forward to more comments. I knew a Marie also.

What memories these photo's bring back. I was a "regular" at the Wellington Pier rink 1950-1970 and was in several of the skating shows. Among my partners in the dance team I remember Joyce White, Pat Andrews, Pat Turner and Jasmine Gray. I would be pleased to hear from anyone else who can recall those happy days.

To Nick Long I read your message about 1950-1970 skating shows you refer to a Pat Andrews I knew Pat as we went to the Methodist sunday school at Dene Side Road. Pat lived I think on Southtown Road her mother worked at that time in Arnolds store I knew them both well. I hope you see the photo of roller revels I know some of the names Heather and Molly Nutman, Diana Holt, Shirley Pratt (I think she married her skating partner?),Tony Bean who was my partner in the comic act and Brian Coclough and his partner her name was Pat. I also knew a Marie wether it is Townley-Scott I am not sure. My Marie lived on Priory Plain. However, like you it is nice to see old skating friends I am now 71yrs old but its good to look back on happy days. I hope their is more skating folk out there. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.

To Colin Browne. Great to hear from someone else who remembers the old days. I`ve been looking at some of my old skating show programmes, and I see we were both in the cast of the 1956 Skating Cavalcade. You and Ann Norman were the " Gruesome Twosome" and I partnered Pat Turner in the dance team. Marie Townley was also in the show that year.
My old skates are still up in our loft, but without a rink anywhere near,it seems unlikely they will be worn again. I am 77 after all. Best Wishes to you all.

I just found this page. I was in the Scaterscades, Wellington Pier in 1951/52. My name was Hazel Cole, my girlfriend Julie Leggett. My girlfriend was Elaine Nutman. I have lost touch with her when she left the USA on to Australia to follow the lead skater (I can't remember his name) but she didn't stay and went home to Gt. Yarmouth. She used to write about her travels in the Great Yarmouth Mercury. She spent a year visiting me in USA and then went on to Australia. I would like to find her. Julie owns the seaside shop at 2 Marina Parade and I lived at 56 Apsley Road. She loved skating so much that as soon as the time was right, she enrolled her daughter in the Skaterscades. What a joy this page is to me. What memories to look at these photos. Ever since marrying an American in 1956, I have lived with one leg over the ocean in Great Yarmouth and one leg in USA with my sons. Thank you for this page.

Dear Hazel,

I remember you from the 1951-1952 skating shows. When I saw your message I did reply but may be Laura might have missed me I did say that I knew a Julie Leggett if it is the same did she have a brother named Peter? If so we were best mates until he started courting then three was a crowd. I am glad that a new skater has found this site hope more will join in. Best of luck Hazel.

Dear Laura I go on to the Yarmouth web site once or twice a week but it is sad to see that the 1940-1950s skaters do not respond to some of the items that are put on? I know we are all getting on a bit & some may be no longer with us but there must be children/grand children who must remember their mums/dads,grand ma ,grand pa who was in the skating shows or who went skating? Also does anyone remember the sport shop in King street there were twin boys who worked there I think most of us bought or had our skates repaired by them I seem to have a new pair each year my old favourite were Ace made by Hamico wish I still had them.

Request on photo number two on this prog. The eleven young ladies standing against rail with the Winter Gardens House in the background.

I know only one that is Pat Andrews, maybe Patricia Colclough.

Can you put some names to some faces? Or maybe there is someone out there who is in the photo. Once again where are all you 1940s 1950s Gt. Yarmouth club skaters? Life is short do not waste your chances. Iam sure that Laura Matthews will help you to log on

Hi Nick Long.

Yes it is now begining to come together. Today sunday 12th of July 2008 I received an e- mail from Molly Nutman again one more link in the 1950s skaters chain. Come on the rest of you. I am 72 years old, taught the basic computer by my children and self. My teachers from the old Priory school reckoned i was a bit dim but if I can put a message on the page please have a go. You will find lots of friends out there

Hello Nick,

I remember You. When the floor was cleared for a dance session, we often had a dance together. Do you remember when the floor was cleared for the mens speed session, how the powder was sprinkled on the floor so the skate wheels could get a better grip? Our hair was all white and we all just about choked to death.

My sister Jean lives in Spain. I'm sorry to say Heather died in 2003 from a Maligment brain tumor. Heather didn't marry Stanly Wildash from the Greengate in Caister. Heather married Keith Shaw who she met at a dance, at the Floral Hall in Gorleston. I married Ben Yow, who was born in mainland China. Ben died 10years ago from bone marrow cancer. I am in good health and go out somewhere in my car just about every day. Greetings to all who remember me.

Hello Molly,
It was good to hear you are still fit and well. I was very sorry to hear of the untimely deaths of your husband and sister Heather. They must have been sad times for you. I wonder how many people remember the carnival nights at the rink, when we had the organist on the stage. it was all good fun in those days wasn`t it. Another thing that comes to mind is how, after heavy rain, we sometimes had to skate round the puddles on the floor. Also, how hard the outdoor rink was when you took a tumble.

Best wishes to you all.

Dear Nick Long I see Molly, has added an answer to the skating page, nice to have another one on the list, sad about Heather. Yes we all remember the puddles even when one slipped and sat in one. I can not place you on any of the skating show photos please point me in the right direction, also do you know any other names? Still awaiting more skaters to come forward surely they must have been some good times?

Colin or Molly - I am still trying to find Elaine Nutman.
Can you help. Elaine had a sister, but I do not recall that her name was Molly. Elaine would be around 70 years now, as am I.
Julie Leggett married Wayne (an American), did not like USA and returned to Gt. Yarmouth. Subsequently, she and Wayne were divorced and she is now married to Henry George and she calls him "G". Together, they operate the shop at 2 Marine Parade, opposite Wellington Pier, and they sell tourist items and beach goods, cards, buckets and spades, etc. I do come home (Gt. Yarmouth) about every 2 years, and saw Julie last Sept 07. She still looks very youthful and she and G seems so very compatible. I am divorced and at times yearn for my homeland and the North Sea and my friends. My friends are my history, Gt. Yarmouth is my home in my heart. All of you in the Skating show are part of my history. I would so very much like to contact Elaine Nutman. She spent one year with me in Camarillo, California, visiting, she worked here and then left via Vancouver, Canada for Australia where she planned to marry the lead in the Skating Show. Apparently she did not marry him, but journeyed back to England - and that is where I lose track.
I am thrilled that you remember me, Colin. Julie and I were best friends.

Dear Hazel I am most sorry but I only knew Molly & her late sister Heather I cannot even remember their older sister Jean, however through the wonder of the Great Yarmouth Web site & our good friend Laura Matthews I managed to contacted Molly by e-mail I think if you e-mailed Laura she might do the same again for me as she did for Molly you might be surprised how near Molly is to you? If it does come about I would love to hear from you we have so much to talk about like you I am now 72 yrs old or is it young? Married in 1960 two sons 4 grand children by one of them. Yes I to miss the old skating days and the home town I do wish more skaters would come on line see you Colin

How many skaters from the 1954 Roller Revels cast remember taking the show to Dover cote to put on their out side rink at the councils request. We all used the pub next door to do our make up and costume changes and afterwards we were invited to a buffet and a drink. I seem to remember it was on the sea front, can any one else remember it? As Sheila Wilkinson was expecting /or had her Baby I can not remember if her & Howarth her partner were there. I seem to think that Brian Colglough and Pat Stewart took the leads, any one know otherwise?

Hello Colin, Yes, it is nice to hear from Molly after all these years, like you, I would like to hear from more of the `old gang`. In answer to your query, you will not find me on any of the photos on the Gt Yarmouth website because they refer to earlier years of the show. My show participation was as follows-1955 with Pat Andrews, 1956, with Pat Turner, 1957, with Joyce White,1963,and 1964 with Jasmine Gray. I am sorry that I cannot help Hazel with her search. I do remember Elaine Nutman, but I have no idea where she might be now. I now live about 300 miles from Gt Yarmouth, but still manage to visit the area once a year and always wonder if I might recognise some old friends. All the best to you all.

To Colin Browne,

To answer your question, I do remember visiting the Dovercourt rink with the cast of the show. Sheila Wilkinson was certainly in the party that day though I do not remember if she took part in the performance. Nick Long.

How ever there must be young adults,or grandchildren who has heard their mum or dad or grand parents talk about their skating days if so may be you can come on line to make our web site alot more intresting as Hazel once said it is our past your history look forward to any replies.
