Bandstands were once a popular form of entertainment for holiday makers and day trippers. Summer concerts are still performed by visiting bands to Great Yarmouth through the summer on Sunday afternoons. In this photograph members of New Buckenham Silver Band are shown performing at one of the summer concerts in the marquee type bandstand close to the Sealife Centre in 2006. With plans to build a bandstand in Gorleston the sound of band music will once again return.
July 2007 Since this page was added I understand that there are currenly no Sunday afternoon concerts. However the project sponsored by the Gorleston Rotary Club to build a bandstand in the Beach Gardens Gorleston looks very promising with a projected opening during the Spring of 2008.
The photograph is of the original bandstand in the Beach Gardens in the 1930's.
The new bandstand is completed in the summer of 2008. Visitors will notice the brass plaques which surround the base. The plaques contributed to the cost of its construction.
