Revolving Tower

The Revolving Tower was built in 1897.  It was some 140 feet high.  The cage - which revolved as it ascended and descended - could hold up to 150 people.  The foundations were 8 ft thick and contained 350 tons of concrete.

It was demolished for scrap in 1941, ostensibly to help the war effort, as were churchyard railings at the time.  Unfortunately, the metal was unfit for conversion into munitions!

The tramway system in Great Yarmouth started in 1902.
