Pixieland

Photographs of a short-lived attraction in the 1950s

By Paul Douch

Pixieland - a fun park with rides and entertainment for children - was created in 1954 on land formerly part of the Wellington Pier Gardens.

Does anyone recall the function of the "cottage" shown in two of the photos? was it an entrance perhaps? do you remember how much it cost to get in?

The attraction was renamed Caveland in 1956, but it closed after the 1957 season.

In 1961 it became today's Merrivale Model Village.
