Wellington Pier Gardens

Photograph of holidaymakers listening to the band

By Martin Keable

The gardens around the Wellington Pier were the home to one of the bandstands in the town. Judging from the scene the holidaymakers were taking advantage of the sun and sheltering themselves from the  seemingly ever present sea breezes. The clothing style indicates that people still dressed up rather than down when away on their holidays!

Dear Laura,

I have seen the photos of the demise of the "Welly" and a sad site it is. I remember all around the pier there was the Great Yarmouth coat of arms and the cross of St.George plus the motto. Were any of these metal items saved ? Did the musuem have any? I hope all was not lost
