Restoring an old sea house

By Kari Christensen

We are restoring an old seahouse from 1848. There are some old objects  there, among other things this part from an old ship (boat) - see picture. It seems that the inscription is "Joseph (& Fanny) CY 947 (1?) ". I am very curious concerning the history of the ship/boat, and think it may come from Great Yarmouth. I wonder if anyone can supply with information ?

We live on the west coast of Norway, in a small coastal community called Bokn (between Stavanger and Haugesund), on a farm by the sea.

I would be very happy to hear from you.

Best regards Kari Christensen

The letters for Great Yarmouth boats are YH, GY is Grimsby, so you need to look in the mercantile navy lists for the boat based in Grimsby.

My great grandfather George Tuck ,a fisherman who owned many boats went back and forth to Norway, in the Maggie May and the Dusty Miller.

He had a stall in his young days in Gt Yarmouth market.  The Yarmouth Mercury did an article and photos of him, his daughter Daisy driving him around in a wonderful old car.
