Norwich Trader - Good times

Times past

By Gordon Kerr

Sailed on the Norwich Trader from May 64 - Oct 64 as SOS then EDH. Remember captain and mate and engineer but not names -  local ab nickname 'Darkie' cook Old Syd, retired trawlerman. Paid so much for food each week from wages.

Is there anyone who knows what happened to the Norwich Trader? I sailed on her from May 64 till Oct 64 .Don't think I would recognise Great Yarmouth now so many changes .Good old ship, no mod cons only heating was coal stove in the galley, no radar but we did have battery lights when in port. All we had was a Decca navigator no gyro just a magnetic compass. We also had to pay so much for our food .Fond memories .Sad to see most shipping company's gone. Glad I went to sea when GB had a merchant navy. Only ship I disliked was the Queen Mary. Only done 2 trips on her that was enough. Nice to look back though.
