World war 2 Bombing

evacuation

By Derek Eales

Our family consisting of Mum and Dad and 4 sons were bombed out of our home in Saw Mill Lane Cobholm on May 9th 1941. The raid was part of a larger raid on Gt Yarmouth and the bomb that destroyed our house was I believe dropped on the Lady Haven Public House. I was rescued by a fireman, and we all got out safely and taken to St Lukes church hall. The next day my younger brother and myself were evacuated to a farm in Bannigham Norfolk for nearly 2years until we returned  home to Westfield Place, Cobholm where our family had been rehoused.
