South Denes Caravan Site

Happy Memories

By Trevor Bradshaw

I spent many happy holidays there in the early 1950's used to hire a caravan from "skippers caravans"  right on the sea front. They were all named  with names like Sunny Morn, Breezy Morn, etc. I can vividly recall the year 1951 when the power station was being built, and they were pile driving for they water outlet into the sea and the chimney was under construction . Many more memories .

Hi

I went on a nostalgic journey to Yarmouth yesterday.

Great to see the caravan site that I spent holidays at in the 60's and 70's.

My Father was a cousin of Lilly Litchfield from West Haddon. She rented out lots of them.

She was very kind to my Father and let him have a caravan for a week free of charge.

Anyway I was upset to hear what they might be doing with the site when really the best thing would be to return it to a caravan site.

I have lots of reasons for WHY it was so special to people which I'd be glad to share with you Darren if you think it might make a difference to it's future. if indeed that's not too late.

Sincerely

James Bonsor from Holcot Northamptonshire
