Pride of the Yare and SS Gorleston

By Neil Cox

I thought of all the people interested in the Pride of the Yare and SS Gorleston when in service taking holiday makers and local people on the river Trent in Nottingham. Although I have been up to Nottingham and found some photographs and newspaper cutting any further news paper cutting or photographs would be most welcome .

As you will see I have added some photographs of them sailing on the Norfolk Broads

There is also a news paper cutting which says that the Pride of the Yare caught fire
in Lowestoft.

It is belived that the two vessels spent two years taking passenger on trips to the Southern Broads from Lowestoft before sailing up to Nottingham

I belive this was in the very early 50s or perhaps late 40s.

Neil, my father, Eric Jackson, owned both the Pride of the Yare and the Gorleston and took them up the coast from Yarmouth to Hull to Nottingham in the early 1950s. (I see that he is mentioned briefly in the last of your scanned articles.) I remember both of these pleasure steamers fairly well, although I was quite young, and they were certainly popular with Nottinghamians for a while. Thanks for posting these photos!
