Profile of Philip Jones: owner of PJ's Gents Hairdressing, Great Yarmouth
Philip Jones has been a barber for 47 years he set up PJ's Gents Hairdressing in 1980 and has been running it for the last 27 years. When he left school his father advised him to become a barber and he has been cutting hair ever since.
He says that his way of hairdressing hasn't changed much over the years but customer numbers have declined, fewer men are becoming barbers and the techniques and products are changing. He feels that his type of trade will probably end with his generation.
He says: "I enjoy meeting various people in my job: I can meet a surgeon one minute, a dustman the next. Over the years, I get to know my clients very well. With one family, I am cutting hair for the forth generation.... (There are) not many negative aspects, other than standing on your feet all day!"
