Profile of Vernon Morris: Owner of Bargain Buy Electrical Retail Store

Vernon Morris opened Bargain Buy electrical retail store in February 1968 and has been running it for the last 40 years. His father was an electrical retailer and he learnt electronics from him.

He estimates that he stocks about a 100,000 different lines including spare parts, motors and specialised bulbs. The shop is open from 9.00am -2.45pm and a typical days work involves opening up the shop, serving customers and doing repair jobs. Though he says he doesn't repair things as often as he used to because technology has moved on and they are more difficult to mend. He says the shop survives because he specialises in stock that other shops in Great Yarmouth don't keep.

Vernon enjoys his job, particularly meeting people and talking to customers, he says: "I enjoy doing it, it's not hard work anymore. It's more like a hobby now".
